For whatever reason she was turned into BARC by her previous owners. Her owners were told there was a high possibility that she would be put to sleep since BARC was so overcrowded. They didn't care because they just had a "new" baby and didn't have time for a dog anymore...shame on them! BARC contacted Dakota Rescue and we took her into our program. She is very sweet, very lovable and just waiting for her forever home. She loves to run around and play with her foster brothers and sisters. She is currently in foster care and would love her forever home. Please consider adopting this precious girl.
Jessie Jessie-Adopted!-Jessie is a Pit Bull Terrier Mix, approximately one year old and weighs 55 pounds. She was rescued from the streets of north Houston. She had no collar or microchip, so she stayed on the covered back porch and played with a another rescue while she waited for her people to find her. After two weeks, lots of flyers and Internet postings, she was vetted, microchipped and found to be in great health, and brought to Dakota Rescue to find a forever home. Jessie is very friendly, playful, gets along well with other dogs, and tends to ignore cats. She loves to play with soft squeaky toys and run after tennis balls. She rarely barks and likes to nibble on you playfully like a puppy with a flea. She will love to play with another dog her size and will enjoy lots of playful exercise with her new family. She is attracted to children and puppies, but does not know her strength can jump, knocking them down. She wants to please and quickly learns with attention and treats; Jessie knows “sit” and may have been an indoor girl. She’s a big, beautiful love bug who needs a true forever home.
Sadie Sadie-Adopted!-Meet Sadie - pure bred Beagle, 3 years old, fully vetted. Sadie's family fell on hard times and are losing their home. They have to move into a small apartment and can't take Sadie with them. She does well with other dogs and kids. She is extremely affectionate and loves to cuddle. All 30 pounds of her. She is incredibly sweet and loving and will be an asset to any family.
Dallas Dallas-Adopted!-Meet Dallas - Lab/Terrier mix, 3 years old and weighs 50 lbs. He is up to date on all shots and is neutered. His family has fallen on hard times and is losing their house. They are having to move to a small apartment and can't take Dallas with them. Originally they found him by the dumpster of an apartment. He had a collar with no tag, was extremely malnourished, covered in fleas. Although he is around 50 pounds he thinks he’s a lap dog and loves affection. He knows how to play well with children of all ages and can even rough house with the best of ‘em. If he needs to tone it down, all you have to say is “easy Dallas”. At night, he sleeps best under the bed with his blankie. He loves to play fetch and go swimming with his sister. He listens VERY well, and is such a gentle soul its hard not to fall in love with him.
Crystal Maddie-Adopted!- She is a pure bred Boston Terrier, she weighs aprox 15-20 lbs. and is 10 years old. That's what her owner said when he turned her into the SPCA.She has been in foster care and she acts more like she is 5-6 years old. Very affectionate, loves a doggy bed and a blanket so she can get under the covers. Housebroken, gets along great with other dogs, cats and children.Hard to believe that an owner after 10 years would take her where she would be put to sleep. The owners reason was he couldn't afford her any longer. SPCA called Dakota Rescue since she was scheduled to be put to sleep that day and we rescued her. She has flea allergies but we have her on Comfortis and she is doing very well. She is up to date on all of her shots and is spayed. Can someone please find it in their heart to give this precious girl a home and let her live out her senior years?
Macho Macho-Adopted!-Meet Macho- Chihuahua pup - 4 weeks old. He was found in a box along with his siblings and momma in front of Montgomery County Animal Shelter. Dakota Rescue will continue will all of his vetting and will have him neutered when 6 months old. He was taken to the vet, she was adamant that he is a Great Dane mix. He has large feet and will probably be tall. He has a GREAT disposition, lots of personality and just plain adorable. He is super friendly, loves other dogs, children and not sure about cats. He is has a beautiful dark brown coat with really nice white markings and big floppy ears. This little baby boy was so scared and was only wanting to feel safe. For as young as he appears, he seems to sleep well and has a low key personality and adapts fast in a home setting. He was found in the Greater East End of Houston lonely and roaming the streets. Can you please consider this love bug into your home?
Tina Tina-Adopted!- She is a 2 year old Beagle mix, approximately 26 lbs. UTD on all of her shots and has been spayed. She is a very special girl that requires some patience and a bit of hand holding, but once you understand her she can be a bundle of joy. She sometimes becomes frightened with loud noises. This can sometimes cause her to jump and crouch down. When walking she will do much better when following other dogs, but if there are any loud noises or barking it can trigger some fear. She does great with other dogs and thoroughly enjoys playtime with them once comfortable. Once she trusts you, she can be a love bug and lap dog for hours. Very low key and mellow and she makes the best couch potato partner. She is a very easy dog to care for because she just wants to lay around, only minor hiccup will be when needing some encouragement to go outside and back in when needed. Poor Tina, not her fault, she just needs some patience and time to build up her confidence. Once she trusts her new owners she will be the best dog ever. Please consider Tina for your home. For more photos of Tina, check out Petfinder...PetFinder - Tina

Bud Bud-Adopted!– Lab mix, UTD on all shots and neutered. Was found homeless near 290 at Antoine and Pinemont during Christmas week. Some nice people fed him and keept him in their covered patio backyard, with a kennel and blankets, along with plenty of food and water. They could not keep him since they have 4 cats. Bud is a sweet, playful dog. He is a medium size dog, finders are guessing no more than a year, maybe even younger. He looks to be about 30 to 40 lbs, but because of his medium frame, will probably not be a large dog. He was just recently taught how to sit, fetch and loves belly rubs. He even likes baths, but no blow dryer please, and loves squeaky toys. For more photos check out Dean on Petfinder...PetFinder - Bud
Cody Cody-Adopted!– He is an American Staffordshire Terrier, approximately 1-2 years old and weighs 60- 65 lbs. A woman found him as a stray but could not keep him so she took him to CAPS. She is Heartworm negative and spayed. She did have cherry eye in both of her eyes. She is an adorable girl, but those cherry eyes were not allowing her true beauty to be shown. Cindy immediately came to her and welcomed the dog food. Faced with not wanting to leave her she invited Cindy to jump into her car and she gladly did so. She was taken to the vet for examination and was fully vetted. Upon her examination the vet discovered that Cindy had pellet shots in her torso. After weeks of care and love Cindy has recovered and is ready for her forever home. She is approximately 2 1/2 years old, she is an American Staffordshire mix, fully vetted, weighs close to 50 lbs. Meet Bobby - He is a Manchester Terrier mix about one year old, 20 lbs. He is a very sweet, exuberant, smart, and super friendly! He could probably play all day long. He likes to laugh! He hardly ever barks at our home. He has been crate trained and likes to sleep in his kennel. He's learned the comforts of a good home, so he only likes to be outside for supervised play and to accompany his humans on walks. He loves to play with the dog in his foster home and he walks nicely on leash. Because he had to fend for himself for a while in Arkansas, he retains a little apprehension about new situations. Give him guidance and stick with a schedule to help reassure him. While in foster care, he has been professionally trained with Micahla of Gulf Coast Dog Whisperer. She says that he's a smart dog and it would be good to continue his training. He deserves a a lifelong commitment in a wonderful home! Considering everything that he has been through he has a VERY loving and affectionate personality. He moves around really well even though he has a full cast on his leg. Lombardy Lombardy - Adopted!

Meet Lombardy - What a great rescue story. Our Lombardy truly came from the streets, a homeless stray. He was living on the streets close to a year, but because of his skittish personality it took a long time to approach him. But he was always hungry and that is how the relationship started. It took many months of trusting, but he finally became more approachable. As time went on he was finally caught and taken into the vet. As many of our street dogs are, he is heartworm positive, although he is currently being treated. Other than that, great healthy boy, we believe a hound mix, maybe some lab. He is approximately 2 years old, healthy teeth and has beautiful gold eyes. He has immediately become more relaxed as he is around humans more and more and surprisingly he is great on a leash. He gets along great with other dogs, he never has had an aggressive personality and is showing even more of his sweet side each day. When he was a street dog, you would catch him hanging out with other dogs and even stray cats with no issues. Basically he wouldn't hurt a fly. If you want a low key, mellow loving and loyal dog, Lombardy is the rescue for you. His name came from the street he was rescued from. Please consider giving this homeless stray a chance. Lombardy is up-to-date with routine shots and neutered. For more photos check out Lombardy on Petfinder...PetFinder - Lombardy

Quiet, doesn’t bark unless he needs to, not hyper but does enjoy playing in the backyard. It took him awhile to learn how to walk on a leash but with some training he finally learned. Ellie Ellie - Adopted!

Meet Ellie - A schnauzer mix was originally found in Kingwood roaming around on the streets. A neighbor found out who she belonged to and took her home but her owners didn't want her anymore. She was taken to Pet Paradise Resort where they contacted Dakota Rescue and we took little Miss Ellie into our program. She was adopted in November of 2008. We recently received a phone call from a Vet’s office letting us know that Ellie was found on 610 @ Ella roaming around for days. Appeared scared and hungry. A lady picked her up and took her in to be checked for a microchip. Fortunately she was and Dakota Rescue was called. Previous owners have been contacted but numbers are no longer good contacts. Ellie has been updated on all shots, spayed and in much need of her forever home. She is approximately 2 years old and the last that we knew is housebroken. For more photos of Ellie, check out Petfinder...PetFinder - Ellie

So many dogs there and not enough adopters. MCAS reached out to Dakota Rescue when her time was up and asked if we could take her into our group. Just one look at her picture and we couldn't say no to those eyes. She is fully vetted. Aproximately 2 years old, weighs 40 - 45 lbs. Very sweet, quiet and gets along great with other dogs. Meet Trixie - She is the ultimate sweetheart, who does not have a mean bone in her body, she is somewhat low key and vet is estimating about 3 years old. She is spayed and current on her routine shots. She is heartworm positive but is being treated. Trixie was a neglected rat terrier mama that was found with her pups in 100 degree weather living under a house in dirt and filthy conditions. When taken to the vet we were told that they had a bacteria fungus that was basically related to being left in these conditions. Needless to say pups and mama had a huge recovery but we are happy to report doing well. We are still looking for sponsors for their vet care. We incurred a hefty bill while they were at Abbott Animal Hospital. We could not turn our backs on this situation, can you donate towards their recovery, or better yet, give Ms. Trixie a real home she so deserves. For more photos check out Trixie on Petfinder...PetFinder - Trixie

Pearl Pearl - Adopted!

Meet Pearl - This poor little puppy was found trying to dodge a car while trying to keep up with her mommy. Her mommy is a homeless dog that keeps having puppies. There have been attempts to try to catch the mom to get into vet to be spayed, but in the meantime this puppy is suffering the consequences. We are calling her Pearlita, for little Pearl. For a rough start in life, she is a little pistol. She has a super personality and a fight for survival as we believe she is the only survivor of her litter. She was taken to the vet for her first round of shots, dewormed, bathed and treated for fleas. She felt so good after that, she was playing and running around like she was a new puppy. She even likes to put her feet in the water bowl, so she might be a swimmer. She is in temporary foster care, but we need a foster or even better an adopter. If anyone is willing to foster, we can supply, crate, food and puppy pads for potty training. Please let us know soon as her temporary home cannot keep for very long. She is about 10 to 11 weeks old, weighs about 5 lbs and the mother and father are mix breed. Please consider Pearl. For more photos check out Pearl on Petfinder...PetFinder - Pearl

She will play ball and drops on her own will, but will let you grab it from her mouth.  She is also an outstanding fetcher.  She is very people friendly and will approach everyone with kisses and hugs if you let her.  She does good on a leash. Ginny had been with us almost since the beginning of Dakota Rescue and everyone loves her, only issue is due to her breed, she is high energy, which was not her fault at all. From what we hear this lucky boy who was found in the streets near downtown is now living with another playmate in a big backyard and gets to sleep in the bed with his new mom. We are so happy for Seamus and feel his new name suits him well! Thank you Kelley for adopting a rescue.

Hunter Hunter - Adopted!

Meet Hunter - He was a lost dog found over the Christmas holidays. The rescurer tried to find his owner by posting signs, contacting the area vets, etc. No one claimed him. She already has a frail, 12 year old, small dog and is unable to keep Hunter. He is a neutered male approximately 55-60 pounds, up to date on all of his shots. We are thinking possibly a German Shorthair Pointer and Border Collie mix. According to the vet he is around one and a half years old and in good health. He had no collar or chip at the time found. He is house-trained and will sit on command and has lots of energy. Can you find it in your heart to give Hunter a good home.

Jessie Jessie (Jess) - Adopted!

These chow-mix sisters were discovered very late one night running loose on Leeland Street, near downtown. The rescuer stopped because one of them appeared hurt. On closer examination, the limping animal had only three legs. These companions had no collars or tags and had obviously been traveling together for some time. They were very hungry, thirsty and neglected, and their hair was long and extremely matted. One had motor oil on her back. The vet treated them for tapeworms and hookworms, and both tested positive for heartworms. Since their rescue, they have recovered fully and are living with their original rescuer. We had a few inquiries but no one else wanted both, so the girls were kept together and now share a forever home.
